In Search of the Reader: New Approaches to Practices, Functions and Histories of ‎Reading in Arabic Literature, Arts, Media and Culture

What role does the reader play for Arabic literature, arts, media and culture? What do we ‎know about different historical practices and social functions of reading, and how do they ‎shape Arab culture? And how can new approaches help us to make readerships and their ‎readings more visible?‎

The Call for Applications is addressed to outstanding junior scholars from Arab and European ‎universities who are active in the field of Arabic Studies and would like to present their ‎current research project. The research may take its orientation from a variety of disciplines ‎‎(Literature, Art History, Cultural Studies, the Social Sciences or History) and should be ‎related — at least in partial aspects — to the reader, readership and reading practices. ‎Competence in Arabic and English is required. Please see the Call for Applications for further ‎information.‎‎

The summer school is part of the research activities of the Arab-German Young Academy of Sciences and Humanities (AGYA) and is supported by the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research.
